Chief Executive of the Marvi Organisation and Chief Coordinator of "Aurat Tanzeem Ittehad", Zaibunnissa Mallah has called for eradication of violence against women.
Zaibunnissa Mallah, who is also Member Working Committee of PML (F), Editor of Behej Pagara Magazine and focal person of the ASR Peace Programme, maintained that violence against women was being practised as a tool to control and dominate the woman.
She said women were the 50 percent population of the country. Talking to reporters here on Monday, she said the women constitute almost half of the population of Pakistan and the country's constitution guaranteed equal rights to them.
However, due to prevalence of a traditional society where women happen to be a weaker segment as well as cultural norms and the existing social set up, they are dependent on men who take undue advantage of their position.
Mallah also spoke of the measures being taken by the government to effectively control violence against women, eliminate gender discrimination and making the women able to compete in every field of life along with their male counterparts. She said lot of work was needed to make the 50 percent population of the country capable to meet the challenges of the society. "Our nation is lucky enough of having a sincere leadership in the shape of President General Pervez Musharraf who is fully determined to bring about rapid women development in every sector of life."
She said it was due to the dynamic leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf that the country was not only coming out from severe economic stress, but also experiencing a rapid development in every field of life. Commenting on violence against women, she termed it against the norms of Islam and said the religion did not allow any one to eliminate the rights of weaker segment.
