Lawyers boycotted courts, rallied on the Mall here protested against the presidential elections and staged a sit-in protest at the main gate of the Lahore High Court (LHC). The bar members wore black strips and hoisted black flags on the bar buildings. They rejected the presidential election process and condemned people who voted for General Musharraf.
Different political workers and human rights organisations joined the rally as the participants carried banners, placards and chanted slogans against military and Musharraf.
Some political workers burned the banners of chief minister Punjab and other government favourites. The LHC Bar Association also brought out a rally to protest against the presidential election that was stopped by the police from proceeding further to the mall.
The President, LHCBA, Ehsan Bohn, while addressing the general body meeting of the bar said that they are fighting for the supremacy of law and constitution and would not allow promulgation of any illegal law.
Bohn pledged to continue struggle till the ouster of the present regime. He however asked the lawyers to stand together for the second phase of the movement. The Secretary, Bar, Sarfraz Cheema, Vice President, Fardoos Butt and others senior bar members also addressed the meeting.
