Rejecting the presidential poll All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) on Saturday termed October 6 as a tragic chapter in Pakistan's history. Acting President PML-N, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi termed the presidential election a mockery of democracy. " This poll has earned bad name for Pakistan across the world", he said.
He said that in the presidential poll no significant political power of the country supported Musharraf and the poll was held on the power of the uniform. " How can one justify the election in which the Electoral College was not complete besides the candidacy of the Pervez Musharraf", Hashmi added.
On the emerging political scenario of Pakistan he observed that only the Supreme Court could bring the country out of crisis by nullifying the presidential poll in the final verdict.
"Pakistan's political future as well as the independence of the judiciary is now in the hands of the apex court", Hashmi emphasised. Nawabzada Mansoor Ahmed Khan Chief of Pakistan Democratic Party said that October 6 was a tragic day in the history of Pakistan." Election is not over yet it is the polling that has ended.
We hope that the apex court in its final decision will oust the military ruler", he further said. Nawabzada noted that the announcement of counting in the National Assembly was equivalent to contempt of court.
He termed the presidential poll as a 'fixed election'. "Like a fixed match it was a fixed poll played on a self owned pitch with friendly bowlers, fielders and umpire". He said that the decision of the third umpire (Supreme Court) would decide the match. Ahmad observed that the day President Musharraf would doff the uniform as he committed to the Supreme Court, the same day he would loose all powers.
Mawabzada had the view that it was selection not election. " Today's presidential poll is like ridiculing democracy. This election has made us a laughing stock in the world."
