Remaining steadfast and showing perseverance in the voyage of improvement, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) successfully ensured safe road environment in the Capital and fined 32,488 violators during the month of September.
During this period, 592 help calls were received at police help line 915 and immediate assistance, ie replacement of tyres, provision of petrol and repair of broken down vehicles, was provided to the callers.
Fulfilling the commitment to ensure equal application of law, 16 VIPs including federal ministers, Members National Assembly, Nazims and bureaucrats, were also fined by Islamabad Traffic Police during this period.
Not as a punitive measure but as the part of efforts to ensure safety on roads, 8003 motor cars, 4546 motorcycles, 3146 trucks, 3167 buses, 5821 vans, 3762 Suzuki vehicles and 4133 cabs were fined on violation of traffic rules during September.
Among these 32,488 violation tickets, 4353 tickets were issued on signal violation, 2791 tickets over yellow light crossing, 317 over defective lights, 717 for wrong-side driving, 458 for driving without license, 539 for amateur driving, 1644 for lane-violation and 1328 for wrong parking.
Likewise, 2153 over-speeding vehicles, 757 over-loaded vehicles, 342 route violating vehicles, 396 tinted glass vehicles and 450 smoke emitting vehicles were issued fine tickets.
Similarly, 148 vehicles were fined over rude behaviour of drivers with passengers while 204 public transport vehicles were fined after complaints lodged by the citizens at traffic help line 915.
An amount of Rs 1,79,9800 was also collected through issuance of fine tickets to 32,488 traffic law breachers. A comparative study revealed that fatal road accidents decreased up to 28 per cent and non-fatal road accidents declined up to 58 percent in September 2007 as compared to September 2006.
Reviewing the monthly performance, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Zubair Hashmi said no one is above the law and strict action would be taken against those violating traffic rules. He urged the citizens to follow traffic rules and help traffic police in maintaining traffic discipline in the Capital.
