Leaders and workers of the ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League and Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM), here on Sunday celebrated the unofficially announced success of their presidential candidate, General Pervez Musharraf.
Hundreds of people were seen dancing, displaying fireworks, crackers. Chowk Ghanta Ghar became the centre of the celebrations where hundreds of workers and leaders of PML (Q) were present, and City District Nazim Faisal Mukhtar, Town Nazim Jamil Ahmed, Mansab Ali Khan, Punjab Minister for Social Welfare, and Minister for Labour Qasim Noon were chief guests, and also spoke on the occasion.
Workers were carrying party flags and raising slogans in favour of President Pervez Musharraf and CM Pervaiz Elahi. They also displayed fireworks, and later, sweets were also distributed.
They said that the historical success of President Pervez Musharraf would prove a milestone for strengthening the process of national development. "Today, opponents of development process have been defeated. There is jubilation on the success of Pervez Musharraf throughout the country, and the great public enthusiasm is clear proof of his popularity," they said.
They said when President Pervez Musharraf took over, the country had reached the verge of disaster both politically and economically, and had been declared as a failed state. "Due to the wise policies and effective developmental strategy of the President, the economy of the country has strengthened as a result of which job opportunities have increased and poverty rate has decreased substantially," they said, and added that the President had enhanced the image of Pakistan all over the world and his success would further improve the image of Pakistan's stability at international level.
"This huge success of President Pervez Musharraf in Presidential election is an expression of confidence over his best performance," they said. They said the PML government had made reforms in various sectors in accordance with the vision and guidance of President Pervez Musharraf, and their fruits were reaching down to the people.
"The development carried out in our five years' tenure is much more than the two tenures each of Nawaz Sharif and Benazir. The PML will get glorious success in the next general elections on the basis of its exemplary performance," they maintained.
