KARACHI: Sindh government is executing in all 60 power projects in the province, Sindh senior Minister for food and parliamentary affairs, Nisar Khuharo told the Sindh Assembly on Monday.
The session of the assembly began with recitation of Holy Quran and Naat Sharif with Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani in the chair.
Sindh senior Minister for food and parliamentary affairs, Nisar Khuharo during question hour session on energy department, said that the provincial government intends to bridge the gap of demand and supply of electricity and its energy department is executing various projects through Public Private Partnership (PPP) and the government owned companies. Adding that a number of projects from private sector are in development stage as well.
He said that in total there are 60 projects including 35 wind power  having a capacity of 2685mw, 24 solar power projects with 15mw capacity and one hydel power project having a capacity of 15mw.
Replying to a question, he said that a scheme of development regarding open cast mining at Thar Coalfield titled Development of Open Cast Mining in Thar Coalfield (including feasibility study) was included in ADP 2008-9 at a cast of Rs 5000 million. Â However, the scheme was dropped in the year 2009-10 due to signing of joint venture agreement for development at block-III with M/s Engro corporation.
To another question, Khuhro said that Geological survey of Pakistan is carrying out survey at Badin coalfield and its adjoining areas.
A coal seam of 6.17 meter at a depth of 381.46 meter has been encountered in a drill hole at Pangrio. Quality of coal is of the same as of Thar Lignite. Exploratory work is under way. Quantum of reserves is yet to be calculated, he added.
