Speakers at the press conference organised by Thinkers Forum on the National Reconciliation Ordinance termed it as "Pardon Ordinance" for the plunderers of wealth of the country. They said that with this ordinance government has taken revenge from the judiciary.
The influential class of the country thought that people of Pakistan were their slaves and there was no rule of law in the country, they added. They said that their forum would contact international court of justice against this ordinance. They appealed to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take Suo motu action against the ordinance.
Speaking on the occasion Abid Hassan Manto said that NRO has exposed the motives of main stream political parties that they were not sincere with the people, they have their own interests and they were working on it. He also said that it was the time that people should start their struggle against the hegemony of military in politics and also in economic field.
He also said that it was wrong to equate NRO with the South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission because that was for the people who struggled for the rule of law and against apartheid but not for safeguarding the corruption of the influential people.
Dr Masoom Abidi and Professor Nisar Safdar said that all the scholars, poets and writers condemn this reconciliation ordinance and termed it against the constitution and said that they will continue their protest till the cancellation of this ordinance and if they tried to legalise it we will go to any length to stop this action for the interest and future of the people.
They also said that young people and media should fully participate in the struggle for the empowerment of people because without their struggle this movement would not be successful.
