In the wake of detection of some cases of dengue fever in Sindh specially in Karachi, the NWFP health department has put all EDOs of the department on red alert and precautionary measures have been initiated to anticipate the disease well and in time.
According to the details EDOs of Peshawar, D.I.Khan, Swat, Mardan, Buner have been ordered to arrange anti Dengue spray in trains and buses coming from Karachi immediately. Likewise malaria spray, which is also helpful in control of Dengue, has been started in the Province. The spray will be under taken in the areas where it is needed till coming November.
Similarly all EDOs have been provided spray pumps to control the threat of dengue. In order to arrange dengue fever test facilities in the province, all teaching hospitals have been provided with Elisa tests reagents facilities while all district head quarters and tehsil head quarters hospitals have been extended necessary material for conducting ACT test (Strip-Spot Diagnostic).
It is recalled that Dengue virus is transmitted to human through the bite of infected female Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes. Almost 95 percent of dengue cases are occurred in children below the age of 15 years.
The physician should be consulted in the case of appearance of red spots on the skin, bleeding from nose or gums, black stool, sleepiness, abdominal pain, excessive Thirst (Dry mouth) pale, cold cam skin or difficulty in breathing. The body temperature of the patient should be kept below, while Paracetamol tablets never be administered more than four times in twenty four Hours.
Similarly Aspirin and Ibuprofen should be strictly avoided. Moreover, large amount of fluids including water, soups, milk and juices must be given to the patient along with normal diet and the patient should be advised to take rest.
