The nation has observed second anniversary of October 2005 massive earthquake, remembering those who lost their lives in the catastrophe. The nation joined those who lost their kith and kins in the earthquake and offered them consolation for bearing the losses with courage and fortitude holding out assurances that the affected people are not alone.
To mark the occasion, the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) organised the second Annual Conference in Islamabad. Addressing the moot, President General Pervez Musharraf recounted the heavy losses, gave a resume of rehabilitation and reconstruction activities and remarked that with the continued blessings of Almighty Allah and assistance and cooperation of the international community much has been achieved and still much more remains to be achieved for which concerted efforts are underway with a sense of commitment and determination.
There is no need to repeat the facts and figures here as these have already been reported in the media. But the remarks of General Pervez Musharraf, viz a viz, those spreading despondency need to be highlighted and taken note of.
Elements had raised lot of hue and cry when the tragedy had struck while sitting on the sidelines doing nothing in concrete terms for rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the quake hit people. Unmindul of these cynical elements, God fearing people and the Federal and Provincial Governments started gigantic relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction work.
The narrow-minded people never accepted the ground realities and continued criticising the government for doing nothing, thus undermining whatever good work was being done for the quake hit people.
Miracles do happen with the blessings of Almighty Allah. And miracle did occur in the affected areas where rehabilitation and reconstruction activities are in progress. President General Pervez Musharraf rightly lashed out at the elements who are spreading despondency, pessimism and cynicism only to obstruct the good work being done in the quake hit areas as a new world is being created out there.
People at large and the federal and provincial governments through ERRA should continue their work for the rehabilitation of the affected men, women and children as these elements have nothing concrete and positive to offer.
They are out there only to undermine the achievements and spread despondency, cynicism and pessimism painting a tainted picture as if nothing good is happening. Please beware of such elements who are only serving the cause of the agents of the enemies and are not the friends of the quake hit people in any manner.
