Hydrocarbon Development Institute of Pakistan (HDIP) Director General Hilal A. Raza has said that due to the government's liberal policies and participation of private sector, the CNG industry is progressing in the country. More than 1,765 CNG station have been established and 1,000 more would be set up in three years.
He said this in a meeting with M. Naim Qureshi, President of National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) and Chief Organiser of fourth International Conference and Exhibition on CNG "Conex 2007" at HIDP office here early this week.
Naim Qureshi briefed the HDIP chief about the arrangements of the Conex, which is being held at Karachi Expo Centre on October 27 and 28. Hilal Raza said that an investment of Rs 70 billion had been made in the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) industry, which was providing employment to 30,000 people in the country.
He regretted that some of the CNG stations were not properly following the safety and standards, which might cause fatal accidents. Some companies are installing substandard CNG cylinders, whereas CNG stations did not have trained staff to check the condition of cylinders before filling gas in them. It was responsibility of station owners to train the staff, he added.-PR
