Like other parts of the country, Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival of joy and happiness for Muslims, was celebrated here on Sunday with traditional religious fervour. The faithful thronged mosques, open places to offer Eid prayers at over 1000 places in different parts of the City.
The biggest Eid congregation was held at the historic Badshahi mosque where the Punjab Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) accompanied by senior officers and public offered prayers.
Eid congregations were held at Data Darbar, Masjid Shuhada, Masjid Wazir Khan, Jamia mosque Tehrik Minhajul Quran, Masjid Ibrahim, Jamia Ashrafia, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Karbala Gamey Shah and Islampura mosque.
Special prayers were offered for strengthening the national solidarity, integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan and liberation of all occupied Muslim territories including held Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine. Ulema and khateeb highlighted the significance of the day in Eid sermons and urged the Muslims to follow the teachings of Islam.
Special security arrangements were made to maintain law and order in all parts of the Punjab capital. TV channels telecast special programmes for the auspicious occasion. The newspapers also brought out special supplements to highlight the distinctive features of the festival.
