The NWFP chapter of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Tuesday asked the provincial government of Sindh to show restraint from creating hurdles in holding welcome reception in the honour of party chairperson Benazir Bhutto on her arrival at Karachi Airport scheduled for Thursday.
Addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club (PPC) president PPP NWFP Rahimdad Khan said that the party workers would foil the attempt of creating hurdle in according unprecedented welcome to their leader at Karachi Airport.
He disclosed that 23,000 party activists from the province had already been left for Karachi to join the grand welcome ceremony of the party leader in Karachi. He said that Benazir Bhutto would arrive as per her schedule, ie October 18. Rahimdad Khan was of the view that return of Benazir Bhutto, a two time elected prime minister of Pakistan would help in restoration of democracy.
He said that despite the absence of Benazir Bhutto, PPP has bagged the largest number of votes in the general elections of 2002. He said that the party has roots among the masses and dispelled the impression that she was returning on the advice of someone.
In response to a question regarding Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, he said that the doors of PPP have been closed for him forever, saying that in the upcoming polls, they party would field candidates against him on both national and provincial assembly elections.
He said that the party would not enter into electoral alliance with any political party in the province. However, he said they would make seat adjustments with liberal and progressive political parties.
