National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain has said that upcoming general election would be held on its scheduled time and the government was making strenuous efforts to maintain congenial political environment to ensure free, fair and transparent election in the country.
In an interview to Business Recorder here on Tuesday, he rejected the possibilities of any political alliance during the election and said Pakistan Muslim League (PML) would contest election with its allies and would be succeed in the election on the basis of its overall performance.
During the past few years, record development projects pertaining to peoples' welfare as well as a large number of mega projects had been completed evenly in all parts of country, he said.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain said that for the first time in the history of the country basic facilities like Sui gas, electricity, telecommunication, health, education and means of communication were provided in far-off and ignored rural areas to facilitate the downtrodden people of those areas.
The concept of the programme was to eliminate the difference between rural and urban areas as well as to change the life style of rural population of the country, he said. It was healthy omen that country had been tracked on the road of development and prosperity and had become an attractive hub for foreign investment, he said.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain further stated that re-election of President Pervez Musharraf was a healthy symbol, which would further strengthen the country politically and economically helping the progressive forces in furthering process of public service with more confidence.
The return of President Musharraf would not only help in strengthening the democratic institutions but also supportive in the promotion of democracy at grassroots level in the country, he said.
The Speaker said that Pakistan Muslim League (PML) was making strenuous efforts for edging out the politics of confrontation and to promote politics of cooperation for the larger national interest, adding that in this regard the process of dialogue with various political parties was underway.
The interaction with different political parties was the only way to understand each other's viewpoint on various political and constitutional issues and to ensure political stability in the country, he added. Chaudhry Amir Hussain was of the opinion that next general elections would be the best source of public support of PML.
