Chairman Agri Forum Pakistan Muhammad Ibrahim Mughal has alleged that 25 percent subsidy in the electricity charges for agricultural tube-wells, which was announced in the budget 2007-08, has not given to the farmers yet.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, he said subsidised electricity rates announced in the budget are not being given to the farmers despite passage of three months.
He said Rabi season has started and implementation on this package will provide financial relief to the farmers. Mughal said farmers spend about Rs 35 billion on electricity per annum, which amounts to eight billion rupees for a quarter, while two billion rupees concession was announced on it.
He urged the government to implement the subsidy. He also urged the government to take action against those showing slackness in this regard and reimburse the additional amount spent by farmers during the last three months in shape of deduction from their next bills.
