Chakki owners and shopkeepers sold wheat flour at increased rate even on Eid day and thereafter at Rs 19 to Rs 20 per kilogram in place of rate fixed by government of Rs 15 to Rs 16 per kilo. It was complained by shopkeepers that flour mill owners and chakki owners have decreased or in few cases stopped supply of flour to them, which was main cause of increase in rates.
They apprehended that the mill and chakki owners have started hoarding the wheat and flour in order to supply it to shopkeepers on increased rates. Sindh government had fixed the rate of wheat flour when half the month of holy month had passed. However chakki owners supplied flour at fixed rates to shopkeepers only few days and then again enhanced its rates.
Government provided them wheat bag of 100 kilograms at Rs 1100 instead of Rs 1215 and gave them subsidy of Rs 250 per bag when sold in open market at Rs 1350 instead of Rs 1600 per bag but it was over in few days as the chakki owners who hold monopoly on wheat flour increased the rates of flour from Rs 15/16 to Rs 17/18 during last week of Ramazan.
