Prices of edibles items shoot up during the Eid holidays in the city creating problem for the common poor people, as becomes difficult and of course beyond their limit to buy some of the essential item of daily use. People belonging to various walks of life have showed their resentment over the price hike on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The prices of the edible items suddenly increased manifold because of the artificial shortage and in the absence of proper check and balance by the authorities concerned. The meat (mutton) price went up to Rs 280 per Kg and vegetables, fruits, and the chicken prices specially gone higher beyond the reach of common consumers.
The higher authorities should take serious cognisance of this unnecessary price hike and shortage and initiate strict action against the violators according to law said some of the buyers, saying their must be a permanent check and balance and monitoring system to control the price hike and synthetic shortage of commodities, specially the edibles.
