Despite a passage of three year after executing the renovation project of Liaqat Bagh, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has failed to complete the project, which has deprived the people of Rawalpindi from their lone recreational facility.
The work on the project is underway with a snail pace. When RDA Managing Director contacted regarding the inordinate delay in completion of renovation of the bagh first he refused to comment but later held Punjab Government responsible for the delay in releasing funds for renovation and beautification plan.
The Rs 50 million Liaquat Bagh Renovation Project was launched by former RDA Chairman and the then Tehsil Nazim, Hamid Nawaz Raja in January 2005 and allocated Rs 6 million from RDA budget while rest of the amount was to be paid by donors and philanthropists of the city.
He had announced that the project would be completed in three months. But after passage of three years no proper work was done in Liaquat Bagh. Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed had stopped RDA from involving the donors and assured that he would provide Rs 50 million for the project, but he did not keep hid word.
