Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth office of the UK government, Lord Malloch-Brown said that teachers could play an effective role in bringing about a governance system accountable to the people.
He said this while speaking at the conclusion of a two-day teachers' training workshop held at Center for Civic Education Pakistan funded by Global Opportunities Fund of Foreign and Commonwealth office of the UK government.
The civic education, he said, is the answers to the problems faced by the community and teachers have a critical role in the future of a country as they train the future generations to participate and contribute in community life.
He said active community could hold local government accountable and teachers are in a position to influence a vibrant society thus ensuring a government responsive to the masses problems.
British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Robert Brinkley was also present on the occasion. Zafarullah Khan, head Civic Education while briefing about the project said that teachers' training in six selected districts have been completed where students of selected schools have started work on the project.
He hoped that Project Citizen Pakistan will equip the young with knowledge, skills and habits of heart to increase their ability to influence public policy through peaceful and democratic ways. Later, Lord Malloch-Brown distributed certificate of participation aamong principals and teachers.
