Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao hoped on Tuesday that Pak-Afghan Jirga Commission would prove a foundation for sustainable peace in the region.
Talking to a group of reporters at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) during a visit to the gallery along with members of Afghan Jirga Commission he termed talks with Afghan Jirga Commission highly successful.
"Peace in Afghanistan is not only in the interest of Pakistan but it is also necessary for the stability in the region," he added. He further said that Afghan side has finalised names of 25 members for 50 men small jirga while Pakistan would present list of 25 names in a few days.
Moreover, he said Pakistan stands for peace and is eager to see peace in Afghanistan as soon as possible. Efforts are underway for the accomplishment of this noble cause, he added. Head of Afghan Jirga delegation Farooq Wardak said the meeting of 50-member "Jirgagai" (small jirga) would be held in Islamabad in the first week of November.
To a question, he said the newly formed small jirga would have the mandate to hold talks with forces opposed to the present Afghan government. However, he said talks will be held with those who believe in constitution of the country and are willing to co-operate for progress of the country.
