Senate Standing Committee on Interior Tuesday took a strong exception of the 'irregularities' committed by Capital Development Authority (CDA) in allotment of more than 3500 plots to its employees in Islamabad. Chairman Senate Standing Committee, Senate Mohammad Talha Mehmood, while briefing the media following the meeting of committee said.
The CDA had committed serious irregularities in allotment of these plots to its employees in different expensive sectors. The committee had already directed the CDA in July to present detailed report about what he called illegal allotments, he said and deplored that the authority did not pay any heeds to the directives even after a lapse of three months.
He alleged that CDA had allotted plots even to those officials who were working on probation or contract, which he said, was a sheer violation of the CDA by-laws. Through such irregular allotments, he said, majority of high officials in the authority had availed extra-benefits and more than 40 percent allotted plots had been sold out by those who got them illegally.
He contended that the authority could not allot any plot more than 500 yards in a developed sector but the rules had been widely violated in this case. Besides, he said, the committee also discussed the law and order situation in the Federal Capital keeping in view the present deteriorating law and order situation across the country.
He informed the media that the committee asked the Islamabad Capital Territory administration to chalk out a special security plan for the federal capital during the general elections along with installation of special security camera at different entry and exit points.
Senator Talha further said that the committee also directed the authority concerned to hire more security staff to overcome the manpower shortage. It also took serious note of corruption trend in police and land departments, directing the concerned authorities to give a complete report about the details of these officials, who are involved in such acts, he added. The committee also recommended computerisation of financial and property records of the concerned departments to check the menace of corruption, he informed.
The committee members, he said, expressed displeasure over the absence of State Minister for Interior and some other concerned officials from the meeting and warned them of moving a privilege motion in the House if they remained absent again.
