The leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is considering hiring services of foreign private security agencies for the special security of Benazir Bhutto in the wake of two blasts on her procession last week, sources told Business Recorder on Tuesday.
In this regard, millions of rupees would be paid to such private agency for acquisition services. Sources said that the party leaders are mulling over various possible options to provide special security to the chairperson of PPP. She survived in two blasts on October 18.
The October 18 midnight carnage claimed over 140 lives and left hundreds other injured in their wake. Two bombs exploded near the specially designed vehicle on which Benazir Bhutto was edging through a procession held to welcome her on arrival in Karachi.
Sources told Business Recorder that after this incident a high level meeting was called in Bilawal House which the top leadership of PPP attended to draw up a future line of action. It was also considered to strengthen Benazir's security in Pakistan by acquiring services from foreign security agencies particularly one from Britain.
The meeting thoroughly discussed the law and order situation and showed dissatisfaction over the security arrangements by the government. The meeting decided to make special arrangements for the chairperson of PPP after the law enforcement agencies hinted at further such attacks on her, as she is facing serious threats from various quarters.
Sources in PPP told that the party leadership is considering contacting with British based private security agency to provide Benazir Bhutto with special security till general elections were held.
"UK and US based private agencies are serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other such violence hit countries and providing security to their clients there," they said. In such countries prominent personalities are being served by these agencies.
