Punjab Minister for Environment Dr Anjum Amjad has said that Punjab government has allocated an amount of Rs one billion for the protection of environment in the current budget.
Talking to industrialists here on Thursday, she said the practical measures were being taken for protecting land and air from pollution and for this purposee industrial estates were being established in the province. "It is a responsibility of the government to provide pollution free atmosphere to masses," she added.
She said industrial sector was backbone of country's economy, and lauded the role of industrialists to overcome unemployment in the province. The minister said that incentives were being offered to industrialists under an international trade agreement to render national industry environment-friendly, official sources said.
"Installation of waste water treatment plants in the industry is being ensured under the agreement," Dr Anjum explained. High population growth, and rural to urban migration are majors threats to the environment in the country.
