Sindh Government on the directives of President Parveez Musharraf has established regulatory authority, Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), to control and eradicate growing corruption and malpractice in technical education sector, besides improving the standard of technical education and to introduce market-oriented trades in technical institutes of the province.
Owing to the embezzlement of development funds by authorities, mismanagement and outdated trades training programs the technical education in the province is at the verge of collapse at present, well-placed sources told Business Recorder on Friday.
They revealed that even a single technical education institute in Sindh was not conducting trade training program as per market demand, which was the basic aim of establishment of these institutes
According to the directives, the TEVTA would work under the direct supervision of Chief Minister, Dr Ghulam Arbab Rahim, who would be chairman of the authority.
When contacted, Haji Karim Bakhsh Siddiqui, who has recently posted as Managing Director of TEVTA said that authority had been established with ten members from public and private sectors including Chief Minister as chairman, Chief Secretary, secretaries of Education and Industry and four professionals from different industrial units. He said that the technical institutes were imparting outdated technical disciplines to students, which have no market demands.
He maintained the government had started trade training institutes with the aim to produce skilled manpower to fulfil the domestic industrial requirements as well as alleviate unemployment in the country.
He said that institutes were teaching technical trades without market research, which not only spoil students' future but also damaging the credibility of all technical institutes. TEVTA will conduct research to streamline the market requirements, which will help to update technical trades, he added.
