Taiwan stocks rose 0.66 percent to a one-week closing high on Friday, paced by bellwether chip maker TSMC as its solid quarterly results fuelled optimism for a better technology sector outlook. The main TAIEX share index ended up 63.25 points at 9,631.51, its highest since October 18.
The index has rebounded about 3 percent after dipping to a one-month low on Monday. Shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), the world's top contract chip maker, rose 0.82 percent, with the broader semiconductor sub-index climbing 0.51 percent.
Turnover was at T$139.4 billion ($4.3 billion), flat from T$136.3 billion a day ago. TSMC reported its best result in a year and gave an upbeat forecast for the fourth quarter and the broader foundry market next year.
Motech, Taiwan's top maker of solar cells, was off 0.54 percent. The company, which has been benefited from higher oil prices, is set to release its quarterly results after market close today. Acer, Taiwan's top computer vendor, closed 1.1 percent higher after posting its quarterly result. Acer will brief investors to discuss the results after the market close.
