The euro after touching the new high on the globe versus dollar crossed the mark of Rs 87 in the open market on Saturday, dealers said. The rupee lost 38 paisa against euro at Rs 86.97 and Rs 87.08 in process of trading, they said.
The rupee shed two paisa against dollar at Rs 60.70 for buying while it did not show any change for selling at Rs 60.75, they said. In the final session at the weekend, dollar edged closer to an all-time low against euro as poor US data on durable goods orders and new home sales the previous day reinforced expectations for a Federal Reserve rate cut next week.
The yen slipped as Asian stock markets pushed higher, warming demand for risky trades that involve selling yen, while a jump in gold and oil prices pushed the Australian dollar to a nearly 24-year peak against the US dollar.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: The rupee managed to hold its overnight levels against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 60.70 and Rs 60.72 respectively, they said.
