Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly and Pakistan People's Party leader Qasim Zia has said his party will hold accountable to the "Chaudhrys" after coming into power. Qasim told reporters here on Monday that the Punjab chief minister was spending millions of rupees on his personal publicity on the state expense.
He said various reports were being published about the activities of the "young Chaudhry" assuming the powers of a district Nazim after he detained Mian Amer Mahmood.
Terming the statement of Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani that PPP would have to import candidates, Qasim said his party was enjoying a massive public support and that people were keen to contest the upcoming elections from the PPP ticket.
However, it was PML-Q, which lacks candidates and that was the reason it is field candidates of outside Lahore. He also alleged that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had been made hostage by the Chaudries, adding that he said that peoples have seen true colour of Chaudries and they would hold them accountable in the forthcoming polls by inflicting humiliating defeat even in their hometown. Qasim Zia said the PPP always rendered sacrifices for democracy and the party did utmost efforts aimed at reconciliation to pave the way for real democracy and holding of elections in free, fair and impartial manner.
Speaking on the occasion PPP leader Naveed Chaudhry said that during the last five years, an amount of Rs 8 billion had been spent on personal publicity of chief minister.
During the period from July to September this year, four billions rupees were given to an advertising agency while one billion rupees and 230 million were transferred to DGPR in the same period for this purpose. He claimed the Punjab chief minister was leaving power with an empty provincial kitty.
