Pak-India Peace Initiatives President Awais Sheikh was honoured with the Ambassador of Peace award jointly by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) and the Inter-religious International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP) for his services for restoration of peace between India and Pakistan for the last 12 years in the International Leader Ship conference in Seoul (Korea) in October.
He told a press conference here on Monday that he gave a proposal to the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) that they should also start the social welfare projects in Pakistan in the same way as they were working on the social welfare projects in India. He also gave a proposal of conducting South Asia Peace Festival and Inter faith peace conference in Pakistan in 2008.
He announced that their organisation would celebrate the Independence Day jointly with India on August 14th next year and one thousand people will be expected to attend this event. He also demanded that India cut the number of her troops on the Line of Control (LoC) as there was no infiltration on the LoC as it was admitted by the military officials of India.
He said terrorism was the most important problem the country was facing and all religious and political parties should evolve a unanimous strategy to deal with this critical issue. He also said that in the interim set up there should be impartial people in the interim set up who should ensure that the elections were transparent.
