A large quantity cloths and cotton yarn hoarded in two godowns in Lal Mills (Factory area) and Nabha Road area were reduced into ashes in two separate fire incidents. Fire tenders of Fire Brigade Department rushed to the scenes of fire and extinguished the inferno following hectic efforts.
Police said that in the first incident, fire broke out in a godown in Lal Mills' area due to unknown reasons. The fire engulfed the whole building within no time and forced the owner of adjacent shops and house to vacate them.
Fire tender rushed to the scene and following hectic efforts of more than six hours the blaze could be extinguished. Cloths costing over Rs 1.5 million in the godown turned into ashes and the store also collapsed due to intensity of the fire. However, no loss of life reported.
In another incident, a cotton yarn worth Rs 7 million stocked in a store at Nabha Road, turned into ashes as fire broke out in the godown. The fire was put off by fire fighters after hours long efforts.
