The Cupola Pakistan Limited and the Daewoo Pakistan Motorway Service Limited here on Monday signed a strategic partnership to open KFC chains on the Lahore-Islamabad (M-2) Motorway. Cupola Chief Executive Officer Rafiq Rangoonwala and his Daewoo Pakistan Motorway Services counterpart, JH Kim, signed the agreement in a ceremony held at the Lahore Press Club.
Rangoonwala said: "This partnership has been signed to provide the travellers with hygienic and standard fast food option. Four restaurants will be opened up in 2008 on both sides of the motorway. Early 2008 at Bhera, the first outlet will be launched. At present, 46 KFC restaurants are working in the country and we want to make the number 50 by December this year."
The Cupola is the owners-operators of the KFC International in Pakistan and carry other retail concepts like Lal Qila Restaurants, My Super Store, Indulge Cafe' set-up and L'Occitane personal care brand as part of their portfolio in Pakistan.
The Daewoo is a world-renowned group and second to none in establishing motorway services internationally. The company has successfully pioneered the concept in Pakistan also and superbly managed the motorway service business in the country since 1997.
Both companies plan to explore more avenues of working together in future. Since both the companies are reputed locally and internationally, this will be a strong and positive signal for further local and foreign investment. Daewoo Deputy General Manger (Operations) Abdul Mateen said his company and the National Highways Authorities (NHA) had set up committees to control the prices in restaurants.
