Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that increased political activities would create right atmosphere for the upcoming general elections in the country. He was talking to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, who called on him here at the PM House.
The prime minister said the interaction of all political parties with their electorate will increase political activities, therefore, everybody must follow the code of conduct so that security is maintained as well as all the stakeholders particularly the voters get a chance to interact with all the potential candidates.
He said the draft code of conduct for security prepared by the interior ministry has been circulated to all the political parties for their comments so as to ensure peaceful political activities before, during and after the general elections. The political parties need to respond at the earliest, he said, adding that the security parameters could be clearly defined.
The Sindh governor said as Karachi is the financial centre of the country, regular interaction with the business community is essential to create the investors' confidence and encourage them for new investments in the country. He lauded the efforts of the prime minister in promoting local and foreign investments in the country, which have created thousands of new jobs in the province.
Shaukat Aziz, while reviewing the law and order situation, emphasised the need for adopting stringent measures, including vigilance and preventive measures for the control of acts of extremism. They also discussed the status of inquiry of recent Karachi incident and expressed hope that as the investigation proceed further, the real culprits will be definitely identified.
During the meeting, the prime minister discussed with the Sindh governor the functioning of the federal government departments in the province and ways to further improve their performance to serve the public. They particularly discussed the issue of electricity supply in Karachi and measures being adopted by the KESC to improve the situation.
