An international conference of technical experts from seven countries being arranged by the South Asian Federation of AOTS Alumni societies on November 3 and 4. The conference will not only help promote economic co-operation among these countries but will also do the needful in building the country's image in the eyes of the comity of nations.
Japan's Association of Overseas Technical Scholarships Chairman in Lahore Malik Ikhlaq Ahmad and Vice Chairman Sayed Nabeel Hashmi told a press conference here on Tuesday. They said the conference would promote technical co-operation to industrialise and develop the developing countries and enhance mutual understanding and friendly relations between those countries and Japan.
Delegates from Pakistan, India, Nepal Bangladesh, Iran, Sri Lanka and Japan will exchange their views on training programmes being organised with international organisations.
All the seven countries' representatives have been grouped into 8 groups of 10 to 12 delegates each and all the groups will discuss five topics as per schedule. The recommendations will be submitted to the topic group leaders later for finding effective solutions.
Divulging the details of the two-day conference, Ahmad said on the first day of the conference, Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Jahangir Khan Tareen, Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan His Excellency Seiji Kojima, President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shahid Hassan Sheikh, Vice Chancellor University of Punjab and President Safaas will speak on various subjects. The first day schedule is punctuated with various types of presentations covering the subjects fall in the ambit of the conference.
Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) Vice Chairman Syed Nabeel Hashmi will speak on "Welcome Pakistan" and tell participants about the importance of training programmes in the present day economic scenario.
On the second day, group discussions would be held on "Better Management of Alumni Societies," "Developing Relations with Industries with closing remarks by R Mukundan, Secretary Safaas and vote of thanks by AOTS/ABKD Secretary General Razzak Ahmad.
The Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) Lahore Alumni was established in 1959 with the support of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (which is the present Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry: METI) as the first technical co-operation organisation on a private basis in Japan. Its main purpose is to promote international economic co-operation and enhance mutual economic development and friendly relations between those countries and Japan.
Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) offers training to more than 14,000 people annually. The total number of returned trainees amounts to almost 122,000. These people are actively engaged in the industrial development of their respective nations. AOTS's four (training) Kenshu Centres, are located in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kansai (in Osaka), and Chubu (in Aichi) and can accommodate up to 1,000 trainees in total at any one given time. Pakistan has been a beneficiary of these programmes. Over 2000 Pakistani nationals have availed of these scholarships.
