Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment Director General Brigadier Muhammad Aslam Ghuman (Retd) has said the technical wing of the anti-corruption establishment Punjab, by intervening has foiled the attempt of awarding tenders of development projects, in advance, by the District and Tehsil Municipal Administrations in violating the prescribed rules and regulations and saved huge financial loss of the government kitty.
He chaired a quarterly review meeting where regional directors were present. Ghuman said he was continuously receiving complaints from the general public that some district governments and TMA's were awarding tenders without fulfilling the procedure, requirements, meeting of district development committee, pre-qualification of the contractors and even proper budgetary allocations.
On receiving such complaints he directed the technical wing of the ACE headquarters and regional offices to take necessary action against these involved in such activities. He said tenders of the construction of various buildings, roads, streets and other development projects of various district governments and TMAs were inspected where serious irregularities were traced and further proceedings on such projects had been stopped immediately saving huge development funds.
He said the agency's technical wing was monitoring the tendering of all development works in the province. It has called details and lists of all the development projects of the district governments and TMAs. He said the technical wing was ensuring that no pooling be made by the contractors at the time of tendering. He said the technical wing's presence at the time of awarding tenders has produced positive results for making tender process transparent. He told that technical wing would also inspect the on-going development projects, their standard of work and quality of material.
The DG ACE has appealed the general public to have a watch on development projects in their respective locality and if any irregularity is noticed, they should immediately inform the ACE. He assured that the technical wing would inspect the spot and act promptly. He also said his agency was committed to properly use development project funds.
