Computerised electoral rolls: over 80 million names to be placed on ECP web-site
Election Commission of Pakistan intends to place computerised electoral rolls 2007 to be used during forthcoming General Elections, on its web-site for public information, Justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq (retd), Chief Election Commissioner said here on Tuesday.
In a statement issued here, he said the Election Commission (EC) is also preparing CDs/DVDs of Electoral Rolls on Provincial basis for the interested Political Parties and contesting candidates. He said that for this objective, proposals had been invited from reputed firms, which have expertise to undertake this national project on priority basis.
The Chief Election Commissioner said that as per the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the left-over voters who could not get themselves registered, have also been included in the Computerised Electoral rolls, 2007, with a view to enfranchise such potential voters, validated during the field work by the verifying officials under the supervision of the Election Commission of Pakistan's Registration Officers.
In all 80,489,370 voters have been placed on the Computerised Electoral Rolls 2007 as a result of house-to-house enumerations. There are 198,288 male and 151,160 female voters in Islamabad, 18,595,587 male and 12,531,337 female voters in Punjab, 7,316,587 male and 4,709,150 female voters in Sindh, 1,739,821 male and 1,739,913 female voters in Balochistan, 4,829,913 male and 2,242,200 female voters in NWFP, 487,985 male and 85,761 female voters in Fata and total number of electoral rolls in said year were 54,165,839.
Whereas in Electoral Rolls in 2002, there were 62,594 male and 69,338 female voters in Islamabad, 5,825,234 male and 7,421,311 female voters in Punjab, 3,522,327 male and 3,864,668 female voters in Sindh, 620,079 male and 728,095 female voters in Balochistan, 1,467,991 male and 2,036,566 female voters in NWFP, 413,697 male and 291,632 female voters in Fata and total number of Rolls in mentioned year were 26,323,531.
Total Number of Voters after merger of Electoral Rolls 2007 and 2002 are 260,882 male and 220,498 female voters in Islamabad, 24,420,536 male and 19,952,648 female voters in Punjab, 10,838,914 male and 8,573,818 female voters in Sindh, 2,359,900 male and 2,006,430 female voters in Balochistan, 6,297,904 male and 4,278,766 female voters in NWFP, 901,682 male and 377,393 female voters in Fata and total number of Electoral Roll are 80,489,370.
The persons, who have now attained 18 years of age, should approach the Registration Officers such as Assistant Election Commissioners of the districts and get themselves enrolled under Section 18 of the Electoral Rolls Act, 1974, so that they may be eligible to cast their votes during the forthcoming General Elections, the Chief Election Commissioner said. He said this option can be availed till the schedule for Conduct of General Elections, 2007 is announced.
