The Interior Ministry has issued special directions to the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police to further enhance the security arrangement especially in the sensitive areas of the Capital after the blast in Rawalpindi on Tuesday claiming eight casualties.
The sources said that policemen deputed at checkpoints and pickets have been directed to ensure strict checking of suspicious elements. The Sub-Divisional Police Officers and Station House Officers have been directed to enhance patrolling in their respective areas. They have been also asked to convey their demand about bullet-proof jackets to be provided to cops performing duties at public places and police pickets.
The police heads have been also asked to conduct the checking of hotels, guesthouses and restaurants in their areas of capital. Regarding the law and order, the sources said " there is a limit upto which you can make security arrangements. One can not check every individual, however, checking is beefed up and security will be further reinforced". They said that many terrorist incidents were foiled by security agencies due to pro-active approach.
The federal government and provincial governments are fully aware and cognisant of threats exposed by the extremists and it is the duty of government to ensure safety to public, they added.
The sources said that "these are few handful people and we would be very hard on them. The majority of our people is tolerant and we have to fight against this menace together".
About the Rawalpindi blast, they said that police check post was targeted by a pedestrian having fair complexion, long hair and between the age of 19-23 years. Further investigation about whereabouts of the suicide attacker is underway, they said.
