The Ministry of Women Development has successfully completed computer training programme for 3,100 women councillors under its IT training project, hoping they would play more effective role at grassroots level. The ambitious Rs 15.410 million, project was implemented with the help of non-governmental organisations in the four provinces.
The National Project Manger, Farzana informed APP on Friday these women representatives were trained with MS Word, Power Point, Excel and internet courses to help them understand the information technology.
Farzana said the five-day workshop has trained 1379 women councillors from Punjab, 750 from Sindh, 413 from Balochistan and 542 lady representatives from Northwest Frontier Province with computer skill. She added that Secondary School Certificate (SSC) was mandatory for trainees from developed areas. However, the educational requirement was relaxed to primary for trainees from underdeveloped districts.
Farzana dispelled that only 31,00 women councillors were literate in the country, saying that some were even having higher education already well equipped with computer skills.
She said that the project was receiving wide appreciation for its concrete results and was in great demand. She was optimistic that the ministry would extend the project further considering the greater role of womenfolk in the process of sustainable development.
However, a source in the ministry said the National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) had failed to provide relevant information about lady representatives, thus thwarting the efforts being made by the ministry.
