Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PIERA) has completed registration process for the total 568 educational institutions of the Capital.
Authority's Chairman Commodore Muhammad Sharif Shamshad (Retd) told newsmen on Saturday that those institutions that were not fulfilling the requirements for registration, had been given up to two-year grace period to introduce reforms.
He said the authority had fixed May 15, for all the private institutions to submit registration forms and about 90 percent of them submitted these within the due date. While those institutions that had not applied for registration within the due date, had been given a 90-day relaxation till August 13 with a fine of up to Rs 500 per day.
Answering a question about giving several extensions in registration date, the chairman said, meanwhile, the authority learnt that some institutions were facing problems, thus they were given relaxation.
He said the authority pursued the whole process with flexible approach, keeping in view the authority's role as a facilitator to streamline the role of private educational institutions for ensuring quality education.
Replying to another question, he said PEIRA was in constant touch with unions of private institutions and was giving due consideration to their problems, if any. He said that during several meetings, the representatives of private educational institutions had hailed the authority's efforts for introducing reforms and provision of guidance to them.
Sharif Shamshad said that PEIRA had been established to improve the private institutions at the international standards, which was a long-standing demand of the people. He said PEIRA teams would conduct inspection of private institutions after every two years to ensure that they were following rules and regulations.
