Sowing of wheat in Punjab has started and the Agriculture Department has asked growers to sow only recommended varieties to harvest the maximum per-acre yield. A spokesman of the department said that Sehar, Shafak, Fareed, Ufaq and Bhakkar are most suitable wheat varieties for all the irrigated areas of the province.
He said Sehar, Shafak and Fareed could be sown up to November 15, Ufaq up to November 25 and Bhakkhar-2002 up to December 10. "The variety Pasban-90 is suitable for saline lands, however, it should also be cultivated by November 15," he said, adding that Uqab-2002 could be sown up to December 10, and Inqlab-91 up to December 15 in the agriculture land of central and south Punjab. He also advised the grading and treatment of seed with proper agriculture medicines and methods before sowing.
