Narcotics worth Rs 1.5 billion seized by Anti Narcotic Force and Excise Police were burnt in a ceremony, which was attended by Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani and representatives of Saudi Arabia and Iran consulates in Karachi.
This was the biggest amount of drugs eleven years, which was torched to show the determination of the government to check, seize and destroy narcotics.
The entire consignment was first shown to the guests including the diplomats and then torched, while the liquor bottles were reduced to pieces with the help of road rollers. Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani said the government was committed to the eliminate drugs from society and to save the youth from being drug addicts.
He lauded the action of anti-narcotics force (ANF) against drugs.
Deputy Consul General of Saudi Arabia Colonel Abdul Razzak Al-Zehrani said that he was happy to find that the anti-narcotics operations by the Pakistan authorities had been successful in hauling up the narcotics and burning the same.
