"Developing countries should concentrate on improving the level of education to boost employment and economic growth which will help narrow the gap among different strata of the society in knowledge, skills and human resources", said Federal Minister of Science and Technology Chaudhry Nauraiz Shakur on Tuesday.
Addressing participants of the 13th Convocation of Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), here he said that in Pakistan there is a dire need to revolutionise the existing education system.
Whereas, emphasis should also be laid on imparting modern education. "We need young and talented doctors, engineers and scientists who could play an effective role in the development of the country", he added. The education sector in Pakistan lacks the new technology and modern techniques of teaching. Only a few of the educational institutions are imparting the modern education to the people who could afford it.
On the occasion Dr S.M Junaid Zaidi, Rector CIIT announced that their new campus in Chak Shehzad would be completed by the end of March' 2008 and they have signed various MoUs with the international universities to bring their institution at par in research and development.
For the first time in the history of the institution PhD degrees in Physics were awarded to four students of CIIT. However 700 students were awarded bachelors degrees in computer engineering, computer science, telecommunication engineering, physics, meteorology, mathematics, bioinformatics and management sciences. Whereas 91 students got their MS degrees and 101 medals were awarded to the students who attained top positions, by the chancellor.
