The National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday passed a resolution endorsing proclamation of emergency in the country and issuance of Provisional Constitution Order (PCO). The Peoples Party members boycotted the assembly session.
The other opposition members have already resigned the assembly and only the Muslim League-Q and its allied groups attended the session. The resolution was presented in the House by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan Khan Niazi.
The House noted that proclamation of emergency and issuance of PCO had been necessitated in view of terrorists acts in the country, disharmony among pillars of the state especially hindrance created by the judiciary and security situation in some parts of the country. The House passed another resolution congratulating President Pervez Musharraf on his re-election.
The resolution was jointly moved by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Sher Afgan Niazi, Minister for Labour Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Minister for Law Zahid Hamid and Nawab Amanullah Khan, MNA. The unanimously adopted resolution said that during the rule of President Musharraf Pakistan has been put on road to progress and prosperity and the House congratulates him on his election for second term as President of Pakistan.
