Pakistan is importing a total of 0.2 million tonnes of wheat from Russia, a reliable source in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) told Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
According to the source, the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has already accepted the bid for import of 0.15 million tonnes of wheat from Russia at the price of $443 per ton.
Earlier, in September the TCP has accepted the bid for the import of 50,000 tonnes of wheat at the price of $455 per ton. Until now all the wheat import carried out is from Russia", he said. The source also said that in the tender, opened on November 3, the TCP had another option of accepting the import of Argentine wheat that presented the lowest bid at $436 per ton.
"Argentina is not covered under the relevant SRO issued by the communication ministry which is mandatory to import wheat. So, the TCP, despite the lowest bid of Argentine wheat, could not approve it", the source said. The import of further 0.3 million tonnes of wheat will be carried out after the opening of tenders on November 14.
