A delegation comprising elders of District Dir Lower Wednesday demanded the release of Maulana Sufi Mohammad, a leader of the defunct Tehrik-e-Nifaz Shariah Mohammadi (TNSM) for bringing improvement in the volatile situation in Swat.
The demand was made to the NWFP Caretaker Chief Minister Shams-ul-Mulk by a delegation led by Gran Malik. Provincial Minister Bakt Baidar Khan, Tehsil Nazim Muhammad Umer and Jehan Anwar of Timergarah were also present on the occasion.
Other members of the delegation included Tor Lali Malik, Badshah Sardar Khan, Bahadar Khan, Abdul Haq Malik, Fazle Rehman Malik, Amanullah Khan, Motabar Khan, Sheikh Zahoor ul Haq, Sardar Khan, Fasih-ul-Lissan, Qazi, Rasool Muhammad and Behroz Khan.
The chief minister assured delegation of all possible efforts to provide relief to Maulana Sufi Muhammad. Maulana Fazallullah, the present leader of the defunct TNSM is the son-in-law of Maulana Sufi Mohammad.
Maulana Sufi Mohammad, the founder of TNSM was arrested after returning from Afghanistan after the fall of Taliban government, where he along with hundreds of supporters had went to wage jihad against the United States after the incidents of 9/11.
He said that he did not believe in false promises. He said no Muslim could deny Shariah. He assured that the loopholes in the implementation of Shariah in Malakand Division would be removed. He said he was repeatedly saying that the government was endeavouring to ensure the writ of the government.
He said that a committee constituted by the provincial government comprising experts to pinpoint physical and legal weaknesses in Shariah Act and Adl Regulation in Malakand Division will submit its recommendations shortly.
He reiterated that the government would take the Ulema and all the stakeholders on board for bringing more improvement in the laws in the light of their suggestions before sending it to the proper forum for approval. The members of the delegation thanked the chief minister and assured to co-operate in establishment peace in the area.
