Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) has demanded tax holiday for poultry industry for ensuring its future growth. The demand emerged at the two-days international poultry congress and exhibition organised by PPA here on Friday.
That was addressed by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Durrani, Chairman PPA Mir Zaidi, Chief Organiser of the Congress, Khalid Saleem Malik and others.
The speakers observed that Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) was ignoring the poultry industry and more importance were being given to wheat, rice and sugarcane and others, despite the fact poultry was an important sector. They urged the government to build and install environment-friendly power plants to provide uninterrupted electricity to the poultry farms.
They said that Rs 20 billion could be saved through investment in bio-security. "To achieve sustainable growth there is a need to increase the production, and that can only be done if modern production techniques be adopted in this regard", they noted. They pointed out toward the shortage of veterinary institutes and demanded the government to take measures to overcome this shortage of trained manpower.
The cultivation of the crops being used as a feed by the industry should be increased, besides installation of poultry processing plants in the country, speakers demanded. The speakers recommended that in all districts poultry laboratories should be upgraded and monitored.
