According to KWSB, in the first phase connections of over 25 illegal hydrants operating under mafia's patronage were severed in Ayub Goth and FIRs registered against their operators at concerned police stations.
The connections of these hydrants were illegally drawn from 54 inch dia water trunk main and an estimated 10 mgd water was being pilfered daily as a result of which not only concerned areas were facing water shortage but, Water Board too was facing loss of millions of rupees.
Besides, 8 hydrants at a distance of 500 yards from police post in Ayub Goth, illegal 2 inch connection of Noor Khan Hydrant in Ayub Khan Goth, 2 inch connection of Fauji Hydrant and connection of a card board factory near under construction Jamia Masjid were disconnected.
In order to meet any unwanted situation, a large police posse was present on the occasion. AVC KWSB directed that all illegal hydrants be removed forthwith and FIRs be got registered against their operators.
