Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain Sunday said that Islam is the religion of peace, tolerance and brotherhood and prohibits extremism and terrorism in all forms and manifestations.
He said this while addressing public meetings on the occasions of inaugural ceremonies of natural gas pipeline projects at village Pindi Panjuran, Gugral Chak and the surroundings areas in the District Sialkot. The Speaker while condemning the spread of terrorism and extremism in the country said that the Holy Quran has strictly forbidden killing of human beings and causing disorder on earth.
He said that few misguided and ignorant individuals, who claim to be Muslims, are the cause of great problem for the Muslim Ummah and defamation of Islam. Amir Hussain lamented the losses caused by the spread of terrorism and extremism and urged the religious and political circles to play their roles to eradicate the curse of terrorism and extremism from the country. The Speaker said that the steps taken by the government to curb terrorism were essential to ensure continuity of its economic policies and expediting the pace of progress.
The government was determined to eradicate poverty from the country, he said and added that various projects have been initiated for the purpose. He said agriculture was the backbone of our economy and the government has provided tremendous incentives for its development that will bring improvement in the sector.
The Speaker said that continuity and stability in the policies has expedited the pace of economic progress and its fruits have started trickling down to the common man.
