Minister of State for Education Anisa Zeb Tahirkehli said on Sunday the revised draft of national education policy had been finalised and would be presented to cabinet for approval soon. She was talking to 20-student delegation of University of Balochistan at Academy of Educational Planning and Management here.
She said that all the important guidelines in the policy had been revised in consensus with all stakeholders with an objective to make it more receptive to contemporary trends and address future challenges.
Describing the revision of the policy a crucial task on the part of present leadership of education ministry, the minister said the draft envisioned future line of action till 2030 to raise the standard of education to catch up with developed countries in terms of socio-economic development.
"To me, it is the gigantic task performed by the education ministry to have finalised the process of revision of national education policy, outlining more clear route to progress and prosperity through education, in consensus with provinces and other stakeholders", the minister observed.
She said it had been centre of attention of the present government, since its inception to ameliorate the quality of education and in total, the minister added, spending of 254 billion rupees on education sector in the country, corroborated the fact.
She said that provinces were being convinced to pump more financial resources into education sector, as she was of the view that allocation of inadequate budget by the past governments for the sector, was one of the main reasons for the present poor quality of education.
Moreover, she said that local governments were also being facilitated to arrange workshop for capacity building of all concerned officers of education department to play more effective role in ensuring quality education in their respective areas. Similarly, she briefed the visiting students about the salient preparing the youth for future challenges.
Cognisant of the fact that education played pivotal role in the country's development, she said, the government was committed to vigorously carry forward its agenda for improving the quality of education to achieve national prosperity. Later, she gave answers to different question put by the students who are on study-tour in the capital.
