Lawyers and civil society members were rallying in Industrial City against emergency rule on Tuesday, when Chief Minister Punjab reached Faisalabad for one day visit. Dozens activists from the lawyers and Civil Society members shouted slogans against the government at Chowk Clock Tower and demanded immediate withdrawal of the emergency.
They also demanded of restoration of judiciary set up as per November 3, which was led by the ex-President of District Bar Association and ex-special Judge of Anti-Terrorists Activities court, Talib Hussain Chattha. Police broke up the protestors and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the demonstrators.
Police arrested seven lawyers including ex-Judge Talib Hussain Chattha, Muzamal Raza, Changaiz Khan Kakar, Shahzad Wasir and six other persons. Police also picked up five lawyers including Tanveer-ur-Rehman Randhawa President, District Bar Association Faisalabad, Akram Khaksar member Bar Council and Saleem Jehangir Chattah, former president DBA from various parts of the city.
Furthermore, the number of arrests is likely to increase as police continue raids on residences of several other political leaders especially in Faisalabad District.
