President College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan Professor Zafarullah Chaudhry here on Tuesday appreciated the trend to develop community-oriented medical syllabus in the country. He was addressing a new batch of students of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and public health at the commencement day ceremony, organised by Baqai Medical University.
He urged students to make extra efforts and reflect maximum concentration towards their education. "You are embarking into the filed of professional education that is directly linked to well being of human kind," the CPSP President.
Professor Zafarullah Chaudhry told the students that after completion of graduation they would have ample opportunities to select specialisation fields of their choice. He, particularly, acknowledged initiative taken by the Baqai University in introducing community based syllabus and ensuring that class room education is coupled with visit to community from the first day of academic session.
"This must definitely be helping students to have an improved understanding of community and its problems viz-a-viz their health requirements," Professor Chaudhry said. The BMU commencement day termed as Day One was held in honour of its students of 21st batch of MBBS, 18th batch of BDS, 13th batch of Pharm D and 16th batch of MPH faculties.
It was attended by the students, their parents and guardians, academicians and notable members of the society. The BMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Azhar Ahmed in his welcome address said medical education was highly specialised field.
"We must define some goals on the highest principle of Islamic philosophy and modern concepts of social justice and modern medical sciences," he said. As for Community Oriented Medical Education, the vice-chancellor said the concept was developed by BMU in 1988 and since then it has been working on the principle to fight against diseases and reach poor and needy people.
Chancellor of the University, Professor Fareeduddin Baqai said the Baqai Medical University has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Kings College London for post graduate education is surgery and dental specialisation while studying in Pakistan.
He said government regulatory authorities had allowed BMU specific numbers of seats every year, which enables it to accommodate more candidates easily. Dr Baqai said BMU was committed to serve the rural population. Professor Zahida Baqai, Pro Vice Chancellor presented BMU momento to the chief guest.
