Lawyers fraternity on Friday continued the boycotts of High Court and observed strike in the District Courts (DC) on Friday in protest against the imposition of emergency. Lawyers in LHC Multan bench did not attend the court's proceedings and refused to appear before the PCO judges.
Several hearings in the court could not be held due to the absence of lawyers. Lawyers also staged demonstrations and chanted slogans against the Government for imposing emergency and PCO.
However, heavy police contingent did not let them come out of the premises. Lawyers of Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Khanewal, Lodhran, Sahiwal, Pakpattan also boycotted the court for one hour while heavy contingent of police cordoned the bar rooms.
The meeting strongly condemned the presence of police inside the court boundary and demanded immediate removal of police from the premises of court. They also condemned the continuation of emergency rule in the country and suspension of fundamental human rights. They also demanded to remove emergency and restoration of all the deposed judges.
Meanwhile, a general body meeting of High Court Bar Association Multan(MHCBA) was held., The meeting was presided over by Habibullah Shakir President of Bar. He saluted the on going struggle of lawyers for the restoration of judiciary. Shakir said that the struggle of lawyers was the struggle of the people of Pakistan and whole nation salutes their struggle because this struggle is to safe the country and people.
He said that judiciary was the most important pillar of government and protector of law. He said judiciary should be free from any pressure for the provision of justice to the people but imposition of emergency had blocked the process of free judiciary and justice.
He said that present emergency was a joke with the parliament and people because a democratic government could not be ruled through a PCO and without any constitution. He also alleged that due to the interference of military in the political institution in 1971, the country was deprived of its one part and now the situation also leading towards the same incident, which may disintegrate the country.
