Pakistan and Indonesia will deliberate upon the draft of defence cooperation agreement, and top of the agenda would be sale and purchase of military hardware on mutually agreed terms, official sources told Business Recorder here on Friday.
The Cabinet had recently approved the proposal by Defence Ministry, which was backed by the GHQ, the Inter Services Intelligence Directorate and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Sources said that defence cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries would be promoted; international and their respective national laws will be followed in strategic dialogue at Joint Staff Headquarters level while discussing international laws.
Both countries will provide of serving armed forces personnel on deputation as and when required, sources said and added that the terms and conditions for deputationists would be agreed upon through a separate protocol or arrangement.
Bilateral exercises between the armed forces of the two countries, besides training of Indonesian armed forces personnel on as required basis, would also be part of defence cooperation pact.
Sources said that both parties would protect intellectual proprietary rights of each other or any third party in accordance with international and their respective national laws and regulations.
Any transaction relating to these rights would be governed by such laws and regulations. All disputes regarding the interpretation or application of the MoU will be settled through negotiations between the parties and will not be referred to any national or international tribunal or a third party for settlement.
Sources said that Pakistan would also sign defence cooperation agreement with Portugal to start arms import and export, military training exercises, defence industry, other equipment and specific research. Another part of the agreement would be tackling of environmental problems and pollution caused by military activities and facilities and any other field as mutually agreed.
